As you may have seen, yesterday dogs arrived in Orlando, FL from El Paso, TX from an overwhelmed animal control. All of these dogs were at risk of euthanasia with hundreds of dogs already in the care of this open intake facility, with more arriving every day and adoptions low.
Thanks to the generosity of BISSELL Pet Foundation and Tito’s Handmade Vodka, around sixty dogs flew to safety on their freedom ride by airplane.
From there, Brevard Humane Society and Big Dog Ranch Rescue met them alongside us to load up for the second leg of their freedom ride!
There are dogs who deserve saving all over the world, but we were especially impacted by the number of unique, beautiful, loveable and worthy dogs sitting unwanted at a shelter in Texas, alongside hundreds of others, knowing many of them were highly desired and extremely adoptable dogs here in Florida who would otherwise be put down.
We look to serve our community first, but our community sometimes means our fellow rescuers. We hope that this freedom ride provided some relief to those overwhelmed in El Paso.
We’re so grateful to everyone who made their Flight to Freedom possible, (including Proctor Subaru Tallahassee who provides our main transport vehicle!) and we know that the 16 dogs who entered our program will become beloved family members.
We still need fosters!
